Do I really need to have my lawn Aerated every year? It seems like a lot of money.

The simple answer is yes.  But please allow me to tell you why.  Core Aeration focuses on the soil, and soil is the foundation of good plant growth.

Plants need air, water , nutrients and sunlight to grow.  Compact soil reduces the plants ability to get at least 50-75% of those good growth factors.
Compaction occurs for more reasons than you think:
-  Regular play and foot traffic continually compact soils.
-  Lawn mowing causes compaction from the wheels and the weight of the machine
-  Regular rainfall compacts soil by helping soil settle but also (believe it or not) studies show the impact of raindrops causes compaction in the top 2 cm of soil.
-  Dryness also causes soils to "shrink into itself" and further compact, soils that dry out for extended lengths do not accept water easily and become further compacted.

Most University Turf grass Extensions including the University of Guelph's Turf grass Research Institute find that aeration at least once a year helps to alleviate compaction in soil, allow better water penetration into the root zone of the soil. In fact, many golf courses aerate their key turf areas, more than twice a year!

Regular Aeration will help de-compact your soil so the roots start moving through the soil easier, water can more easily reach the root zone, the soil can hold more air, and most importantly the nutrients can reach the root zone.

Roots will no longer require greater force to move through the soil to search for air water and nutrients, in turn, your lawn will spend it s energy becoming thicker with leaf tillering giving you the thick green healthy lawn that crowds out weeds naturally, that people enjoy.
We show people all the time that our best lawns look that way because of the key difference, that they have regular aeration performed.
